Oppn creating anti-Centre sentiments: Venkaiah Naidu on Jallikattu protests

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], Jan. 23 (ANI): Urging the protesters in Tamil Nadu to call off their agitation, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting M. Venkaiah Naidu on Monday said some opposition parties are trying to take advantage of the Jallikattu protests and trying to create anti-Centre sentiments. Naidu said the Central Government is sensitive to the sentiments and cultural ethos of the people of Tamil Nadu. "I have full sympathy for the people from art and literature and other walks of life who are genuinely feeling that this (Jallikattu) should be allowed. But these people (Opposition) are trying to politicise and that is why I would like to appeal to all these youngsters to call off the agitation and resume to studies. The government led by Paneerselvam has taken necessary action," he told the media. Accusing the Congress and DMK of converting the protests into a political battle, Naidu said, "Some parties are trying to create anti-Centre feeling. What is the mistake the Modi government has done? The Congress and DMK are supporting this." "In 2006, the Madras High Court banned Jallikattu; Modi was not the Prime Minister then. In 2009, the Tamil Nadu Government passed the regulation of Jallikattu Act giving conditional permission. In 2010, the Supreme Court gave conditional permission to Jallikattu. On July 11, 2011, the Ministry of Environment and Forests under Jairam Ramesh under the Congress Party banned the use of bulls as performing animals effectively banning the traditional sport of Jallikattu.
