Hyderabad (Teleagana) [India], January 21 (ANI): Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) hit out at Congress MP Mallu Ravi for alleged verbal and physical assault on BRS leader and Alampur MLA Vijayaram, calling it "an open attack on democracy."
In a post on X on Wednesday, KTR reacted to a video posted by BRS' official handle on X in which Congress' Ravi was allegedly attacking a person.
KTR condemned the level that "Congress leaders have stooped to."
"Congress MP Mallu Ravi verbally abusing and physically assaulting BRS leader and Alampur MLA Vijayaram is an open attack on democracy. This is a glaring example of the degraded politics that Congress leaders have stooped to, in order to intimidate the opposition and silence their voices," he wrote in the post.
He further stated that the allegedly humiliating assault showcases Congress' lack of respect for "law, the Constituation or democratic values."
"Humiliating an elected MLA in front of the people and resorting to physical assault makes it clear just how low the Congress culture has fallen...This incident once again makes it crystal clear that Congress has no respect for the law, the Constitution, or democratic values," he said.
Condemning the attack on behalf of the party, KTR called for an immediate apology from the MP. He also asked for an action from the Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy.
"The BRS party strongly condemns this attack. MP Mallu Ravi must immediately tender an apology. CM Revanth Reddy should take moral responsibility and initiate action," the post noted.
Furthermore, KTR asserted that BRS will democratically counter any attacks on its party members.
"The opposition should be confronted through the verdict of the people, not through intimidation. We will not sit back and watch attacks on BRS leaders. We will strongly counter them through democratic means," the post concluded.
The BRS, in its initial post, questioned whether anyone who questioned the irregularities and corruption would be attacked.
"Unable to tolerate the exposure of corruption and irregularities being committed by former Congress MLA Sampath with the backing of power, MP Mallu Ravi going berserk and attacking BRS MLA Vijayudu from Alampur is utterly shameful," the post read.
The party further called the alleged attack "an axe blow to democracy" and questioned Congress's ideology of "people's rule."
"Is this your 'people's rule' -- being unable to answer when the corruption of Congress ministers and MLAs is exposed, and resorting to attacks? Do opposition parties have no right to question irregularities? An MP holding a responsible position resorting to physical attack on a Dalit MLA is nothing less than an axe blow to democracy itself," it said.
The party, further in the post, demanded strict legal punishment against MP Mallu Ravi.
"Strict legal action must be taken immediately against MP Mallu Ravi, who attacked MLA Vijayudu. Those who are resorting to attacks with the intoxication of power must be severely punished!" the post concluded. (ANI)
