New Delhi [India], November 12 (ANI): Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Tuesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah along with other top leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Assam CM Hemant Biswa Sarma of polarising the society by spreading enmity and "communal venom."
Ramesh, Congress General Secretary in-charge for Communications, said that they have no other agenda besides polarisation. The Election campaigning carried out by the BJP leaders in Jharkhand and Maharashtra shows that they are baffled and scared, he remarked.
"The Election campaigning of our non-biological PM, HM and others in BJP in Jharkhand and Maharashtra clearly show that they are baffled and scared. They have not been able to recover from the results of the 2024 elections. The only agenda of PM Modi, Amit Shah, Yogi Adityanath, and Assam CM is social polarisation. Massive polartisation. Spread enmity, create communal tension and spread communal venom. They have no agenda besides polarisation," said Ramesh while speaking to ANI.
The senior Congress leader said that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance in Maharashtra was raising issues related to farmers, women, youth and social justice during their campaigning. However, the BJP has only worked towards polarisation, he said, adding that in Jharkhand also the parties associated with the INDIA alliance including Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) are highlighting the roadmap for the next five years which focuses on working for Adivasis, SCs, STs and OBCs.
"In Maharashtra, Congress, NCP-SCP, Shiv Sena (UBT)'s Maha Vikas Aghadi has campaigned on issues of farmers, women, youth, issues of social justice. But they do polarisation in Maharashtra. Go to Jharkhand - what are we, JMM and Congress, campaigning about? Our work in 5 years and our roadmap for the next 5 years, the work for Adivasis, SCs, STs, OBCs, every section of society, issues of jungle and forest. These are our issues. But even in Jharkhand, the only agenda of the BJP is polarisation. This clearly shows that BJP is baffled and scared," the Congress leader said.
"I would like to tell the PM that when you have the census, only then will you be able to go forward. What is the basis of social justice? Census. Why are they backtracking on the census? If you don't have caste survey, caste census, how would you deliver social justice?" Ramesh said.
The assembly elections get underway oin Tuesday with Jharkhand's Phase 1 going to the polls, the second phase in Jharkhand and the Maharashtra Assembly elections are to be held on Nov 20 with the resulst on Nov 23. (ANI)
