Odisha: Congress replaces candidates in five assembly segments

All India Congress Committee (AICC) in a press release on Sunday said that the Central Election Committee of the party has approved the revised list of Congress candidates for the Odisha Assembly polls.

Bhubaneshwar (Odisha) [India], May 5 (ANI): Ahead of the Assembly elections in Odisha, the Congress on Sunday replaced its five candidates and announced Akshaya Acharya from the Nilgiri constituency.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) in a press release on Sunday said that the Central Election Committee of the party has approved the revised list of Congress candidates for the Odisha Assembly polls.
Out of six constituencies, the party replaced the candidates in five constituencies.
The party has now chosen Sudarshan Das in place of Debi Prasanna Chand from Jaleshwar; Debashish Nayak in place of Arati Deo from Bari; Himanshu Chaulia in place of Bijayananda Chaulia from Athamallik; Sudarshan Sahoo in place of Maheboob Ahemad Khan from Athagarh; and Uma Ballav Rath in place of Sujit Mahapatra from Puri.
From Nilgiri, the party has selected Akshaya Acharya as its candidate.
The Election Commission had announced that the Assembly Elections in Odisha will be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections and will be completed in four phases, starting from Phase One on May 13, Phase Two on May 20, Phase Three on May 25 and the final Phase on June 1.
The results will be announced on June 4.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJD won 12 seats, the BJP finished a close second at 8, and the Congress bagged just a lone seat. (ANI)
