Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], Feb 1 (ANI): Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday welcomed the tax benefits proposed for middle and lower income groups and the direct benefit transfer proposed for small and marginal farmers on the line of Odisha's KALIA scheme.
"I welcome tax benefits for middle and lower income groups. I welcome direct benefit transfer to both small and marginal farmers on lines of our KALIA Scheme. However, it would have benefitted farmers more if the quantum of assistance is equal or more than KALIA Scheme," Patnaik said.
The Odisha government launched Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation (KALIA) scheme on December 31 last year to expedite growth in the agriculture sector and reduce poverty. Under this scheme, Rs 10,180 crore will be spent over three years until 2020-21 to provide assistance to cultivators and landless agricultural labourers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the Budget a “trailer” that will take India on the path to development after elections, while BJP national president Amit Shah said the budget has benefited all sections of the society.
Chief Minister of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra hailed the decision to transfer Rs 6,000 directly to farmers.
Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan dubbed the interim Budget a “surgical strike on the Opposition”. (ANI)
