NPP calls for imposition of Governor's rule in Jammu and Kashmir
Jammu (Jammu & Kashmir) [India], Nov. 6 (ANI): Expressing concern over the burning down of schools in the Kashmir Valley, the National Panthers Party (NPP) on Sunday called for the imposition of governor's rule in the state, claiming that an atmosphere of complete chaos exists and needs to be quelled. NPP leader Harsh Dev Singh told ANI, "This is highly reprehensible. The high court has called upon the government to take strict action, but the latter has failed miserably. We believe the government is not functioning in accordance with the mandate of the Constitution and this is a fit case for invocation of governor's rule in Jammu and Kashmir." "The Government of India has been providing full support to the state government to prevent such an abominable phenomenon. Not only schools are being burnt, but they have been attacking police stations, army camps and other government installations, and there is total chaos in the state," he added. Yesterday, a school building was gutted in a fire in Bandipora district of Kashmir, taking the number of schools damaged during the ongoing unrest in the valley to 32. The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has taken suo moto cognisance of these incidents and directed the state government to ensure that schools are protected. (ANI)
