Guwahati (Assam) [India] August 1 (ANI): Assam Congress MLA Abdur Rashid Mondal made a controversial statement on Thursday, saying that not Rohingya but BJP is a big threat to the country.
"BJP is a threat for India, not Rohingya. Rohingya may be a threat but the BJP is definitely a threat to Indians for their wrong policies, management, communal, hatred speeches, and their adoption of communal policies. If someone says that India is in danger, it is only because of the BJP," Mondal told ANI.
The Congress MLA also questioned the competence of the Border Security Force (BSF) for not being able to stop Rohingya infiltration.
Is the national boundary open for all? What is BSF doing at the border? Why lakhs of rupees are being spent on them? If the force is not sufficient, increase the force, and battalion to protect our boundary," Abdur Rashid Mondal said.
The central government is denying Chinese aggression. If the government has failed to protect the boundary of India, then the government should resign. It is not the duty of the general public," he further added.
Talking about the statement of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee about providing shelter to Bangladesh refugees, Congress MLA said that the government will provide shelter and will not give citizenship.
"When there is turmoil situation in Bangladesh during the anti-reservation movement, at that moment somebody may come. If someone seeks shelter, the government will provide shelter, not give citizenship. In 1971 also lakhs of foreigners came to India and sheltered here. After the Independence of Bangladesh, they returned to their land. What to do and what not to do is decided by the Government of India," Abdur Rashid Mondal said.
Talking about the Assam Chief Minister's comment on Rohingya infiltration, Congress MLA said, "In Assam, the government can fall at any time. So they are trying to unite the Hindus. Muslims are coming from Myanmar or other countries; it is nothing but a political statement to polarize Hindus against Muslims. They have lost the confidence of the public. They lost the Ayodhya parliamentary constituency in the last election. In Assam also they are losing their faith and many senior party leaders are leaving the BJP."(ANI)
