Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], October 16 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak on Wednesday criticised the opposition parties for constantly questioning constitutional institutions and emphasised that such actions are "not good for democracy."
"The Samajwadi Party or the opposition parties constantly question constitutional institutions, which is not good for democracy. Constitutional institutions should not be questioned," Pathak told ANI.
He further said, "BJP will also win with a huge majority in Maharashtra and Jharkhand,"
His comments came after the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Tuesday alleged that the Election Commission is not acting independently and is under pressure from the BJP.
"The election is to be announced today, but BJP leaders got information about it yesterday. This is a very serious matter. Does the commission work at the behest of BJP leaders? It is a serious matter to keep the commission as a puppet," JMM leader Manoj Pandey said.
Speaking about the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, Pathak said that the BJP will win with a significant majority in both states.
The Election Commission on Tuesday announced the poll schedule for Jharkhand and Maharashtra.
Jharkhand is set to vote in two phases in assembly polls to be held on November 13 and 20 while Maharashtra will go in for a single-phase election on November 20. Votes will be counted in the two states on November 23, the Election Commission announced on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, bye-elections to 47 assembly constituencies and one parliamentary constituency, Wayanad, in Kerala will be held on November 13. Bypolls to one assembly constituency in Uttarakhand as also to Nanded Lok Sabha seat in Maharashtra will be held on November 20. Votes will be counted for all the seats on November 23.
The results of assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana were declared earlier this month. (ANI)
