New Delhi [India], July 20 (ANI): Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury on Sunday expressed concern over the government's inaction in bringing to justice the terrorists behind the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 civilians, including a Nepali citizen.
As the Parliament's Monsoon session begins, Chowdhury stated that the INDIA bloc will raise this issue, demanding answers from the government.
Speaking to ANI, Chowdhury said, "The Parliament session is starting, so we have reached Delhi. We have not been able to see those who killed our countrymen in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam arrested yet. They (the BJP) refused to hold a special session, so they will have to answer in this session."
Chowdhury also said that INDIA bloc will also counter US President Donald Trump's repeated assertions that he brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, with Trump claiming to have stopped a war between the two nuclear-armed nations.
"US President Donald Trump has said 18 times that he stopped the war that broke out between India and Pakistan, while the PM remains silent," she added.
The opposition will also question the government's foreign policy, asserting that the prime minister is answerable to everyone in the country.
India has consistently maintained that the understanding on cessation of hostilities was reached through direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of the two militaries.
Meanwhile, several other MPs have started arriving ahead of the Monsoon session of Parliament. The list includes Congress MP Rajmohan Unnithan and DMK MP TR Baalu.
Earlier, twenty-four members of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) agreed on various key issues to be raised during the Monsoon Session of Parliament on Saturday, including the Pahalgam terror attack and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.
A virtual meeting of the INDIA parties was held on Saturday, which was attended by leaders and representatives of the INDIA parties. They included Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Smt Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, NCP (SP) leader Sharad Pawar, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray.
The virtual meeting was also attended by Abhishek Banerjee (TMC), Tejashwi Yadav (RJD), Ramgopal Yadav (Samajwadi Party), MA Baby (CPI-M), D Raja (CPI) and Tiruchi Siva (DMK). Briefing reporters the meeting, Congress leader Pramod Tiwari said the INDIA group parties are also keen on discussion on India's foreign policy in the light of international developments.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should respond to the concerns of members about the Pahalgam terror attack and their queries concerning 'Operation Sindoor'. He also referred to repeated remarks of US President Donald Trump about brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. (ANI)
