New Delhi [India], April 19 (ANI): Noting that the Waqf (Amendment) Act aims to bring transparency to the Waqf Board's operations, Kerala Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Saturday appealed to the Muslim Community against the alleged "poison" and "propaganda" that is being "filled in their heads" by parties led by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Congress.
"I am appealing to my brothers and sisters of the Muslim community not be be led astray by the poison, by the propaganda that is being filled in their heads by parties like Mamata Banerjee, Congress party. This Bill is pro-poor Muslim. This Bill is as much about pro-Muslim community, the women in the Muslim community as it is about anything else as it is about aligning the Bill to the Constitution," Chandrasekhar told ANI.
The BJP leader argued that the Waqf Bill does not violate the rights of any Muslim in the country.
"This has been the politics of Mamata Banerjee, this has been the politics of the Congress party from whom the Mamata Banerjee has learned the politics which is dividing the people with lies. This Bill does not affect any right of any Muslim citizen of India. This is a Bill that is aimed at helping and bringing transparency in the operation of the Waqf Board so that the poor Muslims are affected," he said.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Saturday said that he will visit more places today and meet the affected people in the violence that broke out in Murshidabad district.
"It is an extension of yesterday's visit. I will visit more places today and meet the affected people," Bose told ANI.
Governor Bose visited a relief camp in Par Lalpur, located in the state's Malda district, on Friday and assured proactive action.
Speaking to ANI after his visit, Governor Bose said, "I met the family members who are in this camp. I had a detailed discussion with them. I listened to their grievances and understood their feelings. They also informed me of their requirements.
National Commission for Women chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar also met victims during her visit to the affected areas in Murshidabad on Saturday.
After meeting the family of the father-son duo who were killed during the violence on April 11, Rahatkar said, "These people are in so much pain that I am speechless right now. I don't have the words to describe their pain."
NCW member Archana Majumdar said, "Some woman lost their husband, some lost their son. People were dragged out of their homes and butchered. This is horrific. I don't know if such incidents have ever happened in West Bengal before. We have seen all of this for the first time. This is unacceptable. The government must take responsibility for this."
The visit comes in the wake of violence that erupted on April 11 during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, which resulted in the deaths of three people, injuries to several others, and widespread property damage. Several families have been displaced, with many migrating to Jharkhand's Pakur district, while others have taken refuge in relief camps set up in Malda. (ANI)
