Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], July 31 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, on Thursday welcomed the Calcutta High Court's decision to extend the deployment of paramilitary forces in violence-hit Murshidabad district for six more weeks.
Speaking to ANI, Suvendu Adhikari said, "Paramilitary forces will stay there for six more weeks. My appeal is that in a few weeks, Hindu festivals are going to commence, and in the riot-hit areas of Murshidabad district, there are not more than 20 per cent Hindus. During the Hindu festivals, the miscreants will again attack the Hindus, and they will create trouble. So the High Court should extend the order further in Dhuliyan and Samserganj."
In a post on social media platform X, the BJP leader stated, "In the public interest litigation I filed regarding the Murshidabad riots, the Honourable Division Bench of the esteemed Calcutta High Court has permitted the continuation of measures (such as the deployment of central forces, etc.) as per the important orders given previously. Due to the intervention of the esteemed Calcutta High Court, the lives of many Hindus in the Murshidabad district have been saved."
He further said, "The Honourable Court has also made significant observations regarding the establishment of a permanent BSF camp in Murshidabad district. The Honourable judges are tirelessly exploring the possibilities of rehabilitation for the displaced and fair compensation for those affected. I wholeheartedly welcome this important order and express my gratitude to the esteemed High Court for protecting and upholding constitutional provisions."
He said that here, the BJP National President JP Nadda is attacked, central ministers are attacked, UP CM Yogi Adityanath's helicopter is not allowed to land, and a few days ago, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar was attacked, ED and CBI have been attacked, everyone is under threat here.
Violence had erupted on April 11 in Murshidabad, a Muslim-majority district, during a protest against the Waqf (Amendment) Act. The protest turned violent, resulting in two deaths, several injuries, and damage to property. Thousands reportedly fled their homes in search of safety.
On the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Adhikari said that if the BJP comes to power, illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators will be removed from the voter list and deported.
"First, these Rohingyas and Bangladeshi Muslim intruders should be deleted from the voter list. Then they should be expelled from the country, the way the Haryana government and other governments are doing. Not a single Bangladeshi Muslim intruder or Rohingya will stay here. This is our commitment," he said.
Earlier on July 25, West Bengal BJP President Samik Bhattacharya had also called for the implementation of the SIR, warning that failing to do so could result in the state becoming "West Bangladesh." (ANI)
