North India earthquake: PM Modi takes stock of situation, prays for safety of people

New Delhi [India], Feb. 7(ANI): In the wake of the earthquake which was felt across North India late on Monday night, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that his office is in touch with the officials in Uttarakhand and they are constantly monitoring the situation.

New Delhi [India], Feb. 7(ANI): In the wake of the earthquake which was felt across North India late on Monday night, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that his office is in touch with the officials in Uttarakhand and they are constantly monitoring the situation. "I pray for everyone's safety and well-being," Prime Minister Modi tweeted adding, "Spoke to officials and took stock of the situation in the wake of the earthquake felt in various parts of North India." An earthquake of 5.8 magnitude struck Uttarakhand on Monday night, with epicenter in Pithoragarh. Strong tremors were also felt in national capital Delhi and neighbouring Gurgaon, Punjab and other parts of north India. No damage has been reported so far. The tremors lasted for about 30 seconds. According to experts, the quake was shallow, with a depth of just seven kms. Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also expressed his concerned and tweeted, "Earthquake in Delhi NCR. I pray for everyone's safety." Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has also asked for a detailed report on earthquake and the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) has been put on high alert. The NDRF teams have been rushed from Ghaziabad to Uttarakhand to conduct rescue and relief operations, if the situation arises, said HMO. "Two NDRF teams have been rushed to Rudraprayag," R K Pachnanda, Director General of NDRF said. (ANI)
