None of students mishandled; worked within framework of law, says Joint CP on JNU protest

New Delhi [India], Nov. 6 (ANI): South West Delhi Joint Commissioner of Police Deependra Pathak on Sunday came forward to defend their action of detaining Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student who was staging protest over the missing student Najeeb Ahmed, saying none of the students was mishandled and actions was taken within the frameworks of law. "No one has been manhandled and no force has been used against anyone. Adequate male and female police was there. Within the parameters of law we handled the entire situation," he said. Pathak further said that few protesters were removed and taken to police station, they were later sent back to their destinations , including Najeeb Ahmed's mother. On Sunday, the Delhi Police detained JNU students who were staging protest against the authorities at the India Gate here for not taking firm steps to locate their missing colleague Najeeb Ahmed. Najeeb's sister Sadaf Mosharraf, who was also among those detained by the police, vented her ire at the men in uniform. "We were protesting very peacefully but the Delhi Police detained us without any reason," she said. Earlier, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal alleged that the Centre was adopting 'dictatorship' policy and violating the constitutional right of an individual by adopting such measures. "Why is the Prime Minister afraid of protests? If one student is missing since the last 22 days then other students have the right to protest. This is their constitutional right and the government is trying to snatch their rights from them," said Kejriwal. Earlier on Sunday, Kejriwal met President Pranab Mukherjee to seek his intervention into the matter. Najeeb went missing on the intervening night of October 14 and 15 after allegedly being beaten up by a mob of 20 students comprising of the ABVP members, who had gone campaigning to his room for hostel elections.
