New Delhi [India], January 8 (ANI): Congress candidate from the Kalkaji Assembly constituency, Alka Lamba, on Wednesday criticized BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri over his purported derogatory remarks and asserted that the people of Kalkaji would not support such statements.
Bidhuri, a former MP contesting the Delhi Assembly elections from the Kalkaji constituency against Congress' Lamba and AAP's Atishi, purportedly stated that all roads in Kalkaji would be made like the "cheeks of Priyanka Gandhi" if the BJP came to power in the national capital.
Lamba remarked that if the BJP dropped Bidhuri from Kalkaji, it would signify her first victory ahead of the upcoming polls.
"...People have become disillusioned with them due to their language. People are angry... Speak on development. But more than development and roads, your eyes are on the cheeks of women... Nobody in Kalkaji will support such statements. He commented on the CM of Delhi yet again. I appreciate the women workers of the BJP who pressured the party that if Ramesh Bidhuri says such things, they will not support him. Maybe his ticket will be withdrawn today. If this happens, it will be our first victory. My contest is now with Atishi," the Congress leader said.
She further pointed out that the Kalkaji constituency is grappling with issues such as poor roads, irregular electricity supply, and pollution.
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi described the standoff of the AAP leaders with the police personnel deployed outside the Delhi CM's bungalow as a "clear display of anarchy".
The AAP leaders including Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj and Member of Parliament Sanjay Singh had marched to the Delhi CM's residence earlier today to refute the claims of 'Sheesh Mahal' made by the BJP.
"... The reality of the monument of corruption is coming before the people... The sequence of events unfolding today and the characteristics being showcased by AAP MP Sanjay Singh and Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, no matter what they do, they will not be able to save Arvind Kejriwal's museum of corruption, the 'sheesh mahal'... Whatever they have done today, is a clear display of anarchy," Trivedi told reporters here.
The Delhi Assembly elections will be held in a single phase on February 5, with the counting of votes scheduled for February 8.
A three-cornered contest is on cards in Delhi between the ruling AAP, BJP, and Congress.
In the 2020 Assembly elections, AAP secured 62 seats, BJP won 8, while Congress failed to win any seats. (ANI)
