Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], Mar 10 (ANI): Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Sunday asserted that the party cannot be defeated in Kendrapara- the Lok Sabha seat from where former BJD leader Jay Panda earlier contested.
Speaking to ANI, BJD leader Pinaki Misra said "Kendrapara seat is safe for BJD, no one can defeat BJD from Kendrapara. Now, the question that arises is whether Jay Panda will contest from Kendrapara (under BJP)."
"Panda had no roots in Kendrapara. (Naveen) Patnaik ji gifted him this seat as he wanted to contest Lok Sabha elections. I am sure that the party will appoint a suitable candidate to contest from Kendrapara."
Panda, who was suspended from the BJD last year on account of "anti-party activities", joined the BJP on March 4 in the presence of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
In his strong-worded resignation letter written to Patnaik on May 28, Panda had stated that he was disappointed with the kind of politics being practised by the BJD.
Meanwhile, Misra lauded Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for announcing 33 per cent quota for women in allocation of Lok Sabha seats for the BJD.
"It is a historic decision and other political parties should learn from the Chief Minister," he added. (ANI)
