New Delhi [India], February 18 (ANI): The Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Hannan Mollah on Sunday said that no protest is being held by and Samyukt Kisan Morcha on the borders of Delhi, but three-four organisations that separated from SKM after the movement in 2020 are agitating and taking "our name".
"The government is holding the fourth round of talks with the farmers. Last time in the year 2020, when there was a farmers' movement, the government talked to us 11 times, but no solution was found. In these 11 meetings, the government used to call 42 people, and at that time, two of them separated. The government is calling two of them for a meeting today but not talking to the remaining 40 people with whom the government spoke during the last movement. In such a situation, it seems that the government has some purpose," Hannan Mollah told ANI.
"We are continuously conveying our demands to the government. But right now, no protest is being held by SKM on the border of Delhi, rather, three-four organisations that separated from SKM after the movement in the year 2020 are agitating and taking our name. But this does not mean that we oppose the farmers; we support them, and all their demands should be fulfilled as soon as possible. They should be given their rights and no wrong should be done to the agitating farmers in any way," the CPI (M) leader added.
Earlier today, holding a press conference, a farmer leader said that the government's intentions are not right as there are some unknown people with the police.
"We want to tell the government that on one side you are creating an environment of talking but on the other side where there are barricades and police deployment, there are some people who do not have any name plate, do not have proper uniform. From this, it is clear that the intentions of the government are not right," a farmer leader said.
"The Land Acquisition Act 2013 which has already been made, we demand that it should be implemented. The way a model act was made in 2015, a proposal was made and sent to different states, through it our farmers are being looted and everything is going in favour of the corporates."
"Farmers will not go anywhere. As earlier, allegations were put on us that this movement is supported by other political parties, I want to clarify that we have no such purpose. We are completely non-political. The government should accept our demand before model code of conduct comes into effect," he added.
Notably, the Centre and the farmers organisations will hold a meeting today. (ANI)
