"No one will have objections, if done impartially": JMM's Mahua Maji on second SIR phase

Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], October 28 (ANI): Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MP Mahua Maji on Tuesday called for fair conduct of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, saying that no one will have objections if it is done "impartially."
Speaking to ANI, the JMM MP said that no one has a problem if SIR is conducted properly, but the problem arises when it's "deliberately done as part of a conspiracy."
Maji said, "If SIR is conducted properly, no one has a problem with it. The problem arises when it's deliberately done as part of a conspiracy. The way Rahul Gandhi did the press conference and showed all the discrepancies, it is a matter of investigation..."
"SIR verification of people's voter IDs is not necessarily wrong; it is still being found to have discrepancies. There is a constant crisis surrounding this. There should be a nationwide SIR, but in an impartial manner. If it is done impartially, no one will have any objections. But this is not happening. Evidence of this is being provided repeatedly," she added.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) will conduct the second phase of Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls across 12 States and Union Territories, with the final voter list to be published on February 7, 2026.The first phase of the SIR was conducted in Bihar in September, ahead of the Assembly elections in the State.
The exercise will cover Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
According to the Election Commission, printing and training will take place from October 28 to November 3, followed by an Enumeration Phase from November 4 to December 4.
The draft electoral rolls will be published on December 9, followed by a claims and objection period from December 9 to January 8, 2026.
The Notice Phase (for hearing and verification) will take place between December 9, 2025, and January 31, 2026, with publication of Final Electoral Rolls on February 7, 2026.
"The second phase of SIR (Special Intensive Revision) is about to be carried out in 12 States and UTs," Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said while addressing a press conference. (ANI)
