Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], November 7 (ANI): Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kiren Rijiju on Thursday criticised the Congress, stating that no one would believe the Congress's promises for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference in Mumbai, Rijiju remarked, "No one will ever believe the announcements made by Congress for the Maharashtra assembly elections."
He also criticised Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi for his "Samvidhan Sammelan" in Nagpur, arguing that Congress has no grounds to discuss the Constitution after previously showing disrespect towards it.
"I object to Rahul Gandhi holding the 'Samvidhan Sammelan' in Nagpur when he doesn't respect the Constitution... Congress has no right to talk about Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar and the Constitution after disrespecting them," Rijiju stated.
Intensifying his critique, the Union Minister said that Congress and its allies deserve to face consequences in the Maharashtra elections.
"Congress says Article 370 should be reinstated in Jammu and Kashmir. Due to Article 370, reservation facilities were unavailable there. Modi ji revoked Article 370, enabling reservations for the SC/ST community in J&K. Congress cannot mislead the public in this way. On November 15, we will celebrate the 150th anniversary of Bhawan Birsa Munda. In this Maharashtra election, Congress and its allies should be taught a lesson," Rijiju added.
On Wednesday, ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) announced five key pledges at a joint rally. These included the Mahalakshmi Yojana for women, providing Rs 3,000 per month to one woman per family, alongside free bus travel for women.
Rahul Gandhi announced the Mahalakshmi Yojana for women, which would provide Rs 3,000 monthly to one woman in every household and include free bus travel for women.
The MVA also pledged to write off farmers' agricultural loans up to Rs 3 lakh, with an additional Rs 50,000 incentive for timely loan repayments.
The alliance promised to conduct a caste census and to work towards removing the 50 percent cap on reservations.
Additionally, the MVA promised health insurance worth Rs 25 lakh for all families and assured that essential medicines would be provided free of charge in hospitals.
The fifth guarantee includes monthly assistance of Rs 4,000 to unemployed youth in the state.
The Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, with vote counting for all 288 constituencies set for November 23. (ANI)
