Thoothukudi (Tamil Nadu) [India], July 6 (ANI): Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi said that the law and order situation across the country is not right and the recently concluded Lok Sabha election in the country was marked with religious vandalism.
"There is no law and order throughout the country...The election was fought with religious vandalism...The campaign against Tamil Nadu in the state of Odisha reeks of violence that divides people," Kanimozhi said speaking to reporters at her constituency Thoothukudi on Saturday.
Kanimozhi was responding to Union Minister L Murugan's allegation that the law and order situation is poor in Tamil Nadu.
The DMK MP was present at the inauguration of the new Ultrasonogram (USG Machine) service for pregnant mothers. The ceremony was held at the facility that provides welfare assistance to pregnant women and post-partum women at the Primary Health Center at Pudukkottai in Tuticorin.
Hitting out at the Prime Minister for speaking about Manipur in Parliament only after the opposition staged a walkout from the Rajya Sabha, Kanimozhi said, "After the opposition parties staged a walkout, the Prime Minister started talking about the law and order situation in Manipur."
Speaking on its rival party, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) not contesting in the Vikravandi bypoll, Kanimozhi said, "They might not want to because of the fear of failure."
Earlier in the day, Union Minister L Murugan said, "Stalin government has totally failed to maintain law and order in the state. Last week almost 70 people died in Kallakurichi by consuming illicit liquor. Tamil Nadu government is not at all concerned...two months before a Congress district president was brutally murdered, the accused were not arrested. Today it is the state president of a national party...I express my deep condolence. I strongly condemn the incident. The government needs to act fast."
The DMK won 22 seats in the Lok Sabha polls in Tamil Nadu, the Congress won nine, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi won two, the Communist Party of India two, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) two, the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam one and the Indian Union Muslim League won one seat.
