"No law and order in West Bengal... govt of corrupt, goons", alleges Rajnath Singh

Malda (West Bengal) [India], April 21 (ANI): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh alleged that there is no law and order in West Bengal adding that a state cannot develop in such a 'situation'.
Singh targeted the Trinamool Congress government in the state on Sunday while addressing a public rally in Malda in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections.
"If someone asks what has the TMC government done for the state during its rule, everyone says, it is a government of the corrupt, goons, and criminals. All the government contracts are given to TMC workers," the BJP leader said.
"There is no law and order in the state. The first condition for a developed region is a perfect law and order situation. If the law and order situation in the state is not up to the mark, it cannot develop," he added.
Singh earlier during a public rally in Murshidabad alleged that an atmosphere of anarchy is prevailing in the entire state.
"There is an atmosphere of anarchy in the entire West Bengal and it is known for crime. Incidents like Sandeshkhali happen in the land of West Bengal. I assure you that this time if the BJP government is formed here, we will see who dares to repeat the incident like Sandeshkhali," Singh said on Sunday.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has traditionally held a stronghold in West Bengal. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the TMC emerged as the dominant force, securing 34 seats in the state. In contrast, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to win only 2 seats. The CPI (M) and the Congress won 2 and 4 seats, respectively.
However, the political landscape saw a significant shift in the 2019 polls. The BJP won 18 seats, a stark contrast to their previous tally. The TMC, although still in the lead, saw their seat count reduced to 22. The Congress's representation was reduced to just 2 seats, while the Left Front was unable to secure any seats.
West Bengal's Coochbehar, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri voted in the first phase on April 19 along with 99 other constituencies across the country.
Voting for the remaining 39 constituencies in the state will be held from April 26 to June 1. The results will be announced on June 4. (ANI)
