Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], October 6 (ANI): Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Jharkhand Assembly, Babulal Marandi, launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee following the alleged attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Shankar Ghosh and Malda North MP Khagen Murmu while distributing relief materials for people affected by the flood and landslides in the State.
Speaking to reporters, Marandi accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of undermining democracy in the state, stating, "There is no democracy in Bengal. Trinamool Congress has completely destroyed democracy there. Even in local body polls, people are murdered. People have to take shelter in Jharkhand," Marandi further alleged that Mamata Banerjee, realising that she was likely to lose power in the upcoming elections, had resorted to violent tactics.
Marandi also claimed that Mamata Banerjee, with an eye on the 2026 elections, was trying to create an atmosphere of fear and violence. He said, "Mamata Banerjee wants to create terror with an eye on the 2026 elections. No leader of the INDIA alliance will even give a statement about it."
Earlier, BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh on Monday alleged that he, along with Malda North MP Khagen Murmu, was attacked in Nagrakata in North Bengal while distributing relief materials for people affected by the flood and landslides in the State.
Amit Malviya, BJP Co-incharge for West Bengal, condemned the attack, calling it "TMC's jungle raj."
Sharing the video of the alleged attack, Amit Malviya wrote on X, "TMC's Jungle Raj in Bengal! BJP MP Khagen Murmu, a respected tribal leader and two-time MP from North Malda, was attacked by TMC goons while on his way to Nagrakata in Jalpaiguri's Dooars region to help with relief and rescue efforts after devastating rains, floods, and landslides."
The BJP leader claimed that the party workers are being attacked for carrying out relief work while CM Banerjee and the ruling TMC are "missing in action".
"While Mamata Banerjee dances at her Kolkata Carnival, the TMC and state administration are missing in action. Those actually helping the people, BJP leaders and karyakartas, are being attacked for doing relief work. This is TMC's Bengal, where cruelty rules and compassion is punished," the X post read.
West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Monday accused CM Mamata Banerjee of orchestrating violence by sending her supporters to allegedly attack BJP leaders and workers and obstruct relief work.
Adhikari claimed that while BJP MPs and MLAs were targeted for visiting flood-affected areas in North Bengal and distributing relief.
In a post on X, Adhikari wrote, "Mamata Banerjee is in full Panic Mode. She has realised it (quite late) that the People of West Bengal have despised her inhuman act of 'Dancing at Carnival with Celebrities' when North Bengal was reeling under floods and landslides, with many People losing their lives and thousands left shelterless. In contrast, BJP Bengal MLAs & MPs were on the ground doing their bit to provide relief to the affected People."
"So, she has now pressed the panic button and has now unleashed her goons belonging to the 'Special Community' and incited them to attack the BJP MPs and MLAs so that they can be prevented from engaging in relief work. MP Khagen Murmu was brutally attacked and has been left with bloody injuries in Nagrakata today when he was accompanying BJP Bengal President Shri Samik Bhattacharya to the flood-affected areas. MLA Dr Shankar Ghosh's vehicle also came under attack in the presence of the Police. Mamata Banerjee, you can't intimidate BJP," the post read. (ANI)
