Balurghat (West Bengal) [India], June 24 (ANI): Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar lashed out at the Trinamool Congress (TMC)-led West Bengal government, saying that there is "no democracy left here" after a 13-year-old girl died in a bomb explosion in Kaliganj.
TMC workers were celebrating the party's victory in the Kaliganj Assembly bypoll when a bomb exploded, severely injuring the minor. She later succumbed to her injuries.
Speaking with ANI, Majumdar accused TMC workers of "hurling bombs" at the Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers during their victory celebrations.
The BJP leader reasoned that the TMC worker was trying to "scare" CPI (M) workers in order to get Muslim votes.
"They (TMC) hurled the bombs. We have been saying that there is no democracy left here. They (TMC) have completely ended democracy, and that is why such incidents are taking place again and again. Mamata Banerjee and TMC are frustrated because the BJP got 74% of the Hindu vote. CPIM also got some Muslim votes. That is why they are trying to scare the CPIM workers with bombs. So that CPIM's Muslim votes go to the TMC," Majumdar said.
Additionally, West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, condemning the incident, alleged that a TMC supporter "dropped a bomb" at a CPI (M) supported house in their attempt to make the "Muslim booth free of opposition."
"This is a Muslim dominated seat with 58% Muslims and 42% Hindus. They dropped a bomb at the house of a CPM supporter, in which a girl died. We condemn it. All this is happening on Mamata Banerjee's orders. The BJP team or agent is not in the dominated booth. They are doing all this to make the Muslim booth free of opposition... Wherever Hindus are in the minority, they are not allowed to vote," he said.
Earlier, CM Mamata Banerjee expressed shock over the incident and directed police to "take strong and decisive legal action" against the culprits.
"I am shocked and deeply saddened at the death of a young girl in an explosion at Barochandgar in Krishnanagar police district. My prayers and thoughts are with the family in their hour of grief. Police shall take strong and decisive legal action against the culprits at the earliest," Mamata Banerjee wrote on X. (ANI)

In an 'X' post, TMC said the government has "ek hi naara, line mein rahe desh bechara," pointing to past governmental measures including demonetisation, the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, the Special Identification Registration (SIR), and now the LPG shortage. The party described demonetisation as a "Tughlaqi farman" that forced ordinary citizens to wait in serpentine queues outside banks and ATMs for days to access their own money. The post also highlighted the 2020 COVID-19 oxygen crisis, when families stood in long lines outside hospitals and suppliers as the public health system collapsed.
