Banka (Bihar) [India], July 17 (ANI): Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor on Thursday slammed Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, claiming that his recent promise of 125 units of free electricity is nothing but a publicity stunt.
Kishor said that after 20 years in power, Nitish Kumar's promises are no longer credible, and the people of Bihar are more concerned about pressing issues like Smart Prepaid Meters and incorrect billings, adding that Nitish Kumar will go, and Bihar will see a new CM after November.
"After 20 years of remaining in power, today, when Nitish Kumar is giving a lollipop of 125 units free electricity, no one is going to believe him. Today, the major issue is the Smart Prepaid Meter and incorrect billings. It is certain Nitish Kumar will go, and Bihar will see a new CM after November," said Prashant Kishor.
Ahead of Bihar elections, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday announced that eligible domestic consumers across the state will receive up to 125 units of electricity free of cost starting August 1, a move set to benefit around 1.67 crore families.
Kishor also asserted that the law and order situation in Bihar will further deteriorate as police officers are busy earning bribes, and senior officials are profiteering from transfers.
He questioned Nitish Kumar's mental fitness to lead the state, stating that he is "physically tired and mentally unfit" to hold the position of Chief Minister.
"The law and order situation in the state will further worsen as police are busy earning bribes, and officers are earning money from transfers. Nitish Kumar is not in the mental state to work as the CM anymore. I have been saying this for the last few months," said Jan Suraaj founder.
This comes after a prisoner on parole who was admitted in Paras Hospital for medical treatment was shot dead fuelling concerns over law and order in Bihar. Tejashwi Yadav questioned whether anyone is safe in the state, given the brazen nature of the crime.
Chandan Mishra was a known criminal with dozens of murder cases registered against him. The Police believe that the rival gang has carried out the shooting. The prisoner is undergoing treatment.
Assembly poll bound Bihar has witnessed a surge in crime recently, with a significant increase in murders and violent incidents. Bihar reported 50 murders in just 14 days, sparking concerns over law and order in the state.
According to police data, Bihar recorded a monthly average of 232 murder cases in 2024, which has risen slightly to 233 per month in the first five months of 2025.
Some notable incidents include the murder of businessman Gopal Khemka in Patna, the killing of three businessmen in Patna, and the shooting of a lawyer and a BJP leader in Patna.
He also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is visiting Bihar for the fourth time, to address the state's pressing issues, such as improving the education system, generating employment opportunities, and reducing migration.
"PM Modi is coming to Bihar for the fourth time. He should indicate when the education system in the state will improve, when employment opportunities will become available in the state, and when migration from the state will cease. We don't need trains and roads," said Kishor.
The Bihar Assembly elections are expected to be a crucial test for Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party. Kishor is confident that the Jan Suraaj Party will bring about change in Bihar, with over 60% of the population wanting a new government. (ANI)
