New Delhi [India], Nov 8 (ANI): Expressing grief over the death of senior journalist and TV anchor Girish Nikam, Prasar Bharati chairman Surya Prakash on Tuesday said his demise has caused a huge loss for Indian Journalism.

New Delhi [India], Nov 8 (ANI): Expressing grief over the death of senior journalist and TV anchor Girish Nikam, Prasar Bharati chairman Surya Prakash on Tuesday said his demise has caused a huge loss for Indian Journalism. Reminiscing his times with Nikam, Prakash said that the former was a versatile journalist who travelled a long way in the field of journalism. "I am deeply saddened. Girish and I have known each other for thirty years. The way he rose in the field of journalism and made a mark is remarkable. He was a very versatile journalist. His demise is a very big loss for Indian journalism," Prakash told ANI. Nikam died yesterday following a massive heart attack. According to reports, 59-year old Nikam complained of uneasiness after a programme shoot in the studios of Rajya Sabha TV and was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where he breathed his last. Nikam started his journalistic career with "Star of Mysore" in Mysuru and later shifted to Indian Express, Bengaluru. He had worked in other media organisations including India Today, Deccan Chronicle and News Today before doing programmes for Rajya Sabha TV. Vice President Mohammed Hamid Ansari yesterday condoled the passing away Nikam. Vice President Ansari in his message said that Nikam was a valued and respected member of Rajya Sabha Television. "I am deeply saddened to learn of the untimely demise of Shri Girish Nikam, Anchor at Rajya Sabha Television. My thoughts are with the bereaved family. Shri Nikam was a valued and respected member of Rajya Sabha Television," said Vice President Ansari. "I join the Rajya Sabha Television team in offering my condolences to his family and friends and in praying for eternal rest for the departed soul," he added. Information and Broadcasting minister M. Venakaiah Naidu also paid his tributes to Nikam. Condoling his death, Naidu said he was saddened at the death of Nikam who had made great contribution to the profession of journalism. (ANI)
