NHRC organises two-day workshop on 'Good Governance in Meghalaya

New Delhi [India], Nov. 3 (ANI): The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday organised a two day regional workshop on 'Good Governance, Development and Human Rights' in collaboration with the Government of Meghalaya at State Convention Centre in Shillong starting today, with the participating States of Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Assam.

New Delhi [India], Nov. 3 (ANI): The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday organised a two day regional workshop on 'Good Governance, Development and Human Rights' in collaboration with the Government of Meghalaya at State Convention Centre in Shillong starting today, with the participating States of Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Assam. The Workshop, under the Chairmanship of Justice H.L. Dattu, will start at 10 a.m. and conclude by 4 p.m. on both days. Hon'ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya Mukul Sangma is the Chief Guest of the workshop. The participants of the workshop will be senior government officers such as DGs/IGs, DMs, SDMs, SSPs, Senior State Officers, Welfare Officers, Labour Officers, SHRC and representatives from NGOs/Civil Society, Academicians and Research Scholars from Universities and Block/Panchayat Officers from Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Assam and Nagaland. The objective of the workshop is to raise awareness amongst all stakeholders about the importance of good governance in relation to human rights and development. This is a platform to discuss effective examples of governance practices that have had an impact on the promotion of human rights and to draw lessons from them with focus on essential elements of good governance including promotion of rule of law, strengthening services delivery and government institutions, participation and combating corruption in the public and private sectors to identify further issues and challenges and share best practices of good governance and development as well as to put forth a vision for the road ahead. Apart from these, the workshop also seeks to address capacity building programmes and to identify the gaps that need to be bridged. The Commission strives to promote not only human rights but good governance as well. With this regional workshop the Commission aims to solidify the ground for the furtherance of human rights awareness and attainment of good governance. This workshop is the first in the row of proposed three regional workshops and one national seminar under the theme Good Governance, Development and Human Rights which have been planned for the year 2016-17.
