NGT directs Aviation Ministry to provide information on flights at IGI Airport
New Delhi, July 17 (ANI): The National Green Tribunal on Sunday directed the Civil Aviation Ministry and aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to provide data on domestic and international flights at the IGI Airport with details of their departure and arrivals. The government has also been instructed by the NGT to file note on the mitigating steps taken by it to notify noise-level standards for airport noise zones within two weeks. The bench said that the decibel level should be shown at the time of taking off and landing of the aircraft. The bench further asked the ministry as to what is the noise level of the aircraft in the residential area during the day and night times. The bench, headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar, said the note must state as to what are the contributing factors of noise in the surrounding area of the airport. The matter will come up for further hearing on August 22. The directions from the green panel came during the hearing of a bunch of petitions filed by the residents of South Delhi's Vasant Kunj, Bijwasan and Indian Spinal Injuries Centre (ISIC), a super-specialty hospital located near the airport.
