Never revealed the name of Burari rape victim: DCW chief

New Delhi, July 28 (ANI): Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal on Thursday said that the First Information Report (FIR) filed against her on allegation of revealing the name of the Burari rape victim was baseless, adding that she never revealed the name of the victim. "I never revealed the name of the victim, I am a responsible person and i know my duties and I am living up to the entire reputation of the DCW," she told ANI. "If the Delhi Police feel that they can silence DCW, silence Swati Maliwal by issuing an FIR against which is completely baseless they are extremely wrong," she added. She said that case registered against her is a direct reaction from the Station House Officer (SHO) of Burari Police station whom the DCW issued notice for failing to initiate any action to nab the accused. "I think it's a direct reaction because it is the same SHO against whom we issued a notice in this particular case. He filed a complaint in his own police station on his own and registered an FIR," she said. She further stated that she did not even receive a copy of the FIR. She, however, alleged that there are certain elements in the Delhi Police who do not want the DCW to function. "There are certain elements in Delhi Police who do not want the DCW to function, to question them. And let me tell that an FIR or 100 FIR will not deter the DCW from doing its role," she said. On Tuesday, an FIR was filed against Malliwal for allegedly revealing the identity of the rape victim. A 14-year-old Dalit girl died on Sunday at a Delhi hospital after being forced to drink a corrosive substance by a rape accused. The autopsy was carried out by a medical board at Maulana Azad Medical College on Monday. (ANI)
