Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], August 16 (ANI): Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shantanu Sen said that he neither spoke against the party nor any leader adding that he came to know about his alleged removal from the position of the party's spokesperson through media.
Pledging his commitment to the party, Sen said that he was with TMC and will always remain so. He also expressed his unhappiness that "a devoted and true soldier of the party has to face this" while defectors are given respect.
"Through media, I have come to know that I have been removed from the post of party's spokesperson. I would like to say that I have worked as a soldier in all battles of TMC and I continue that way even today. I would like to say two things, whenever I gave a statement as a spokesperson, I neither spoke against the party nor any leader," Sen said while speaking to ANI on Friday.
"I would say the same thing that I said on the first day, news related to the Health Department is not sent accurately to CM and Health Minister Mamata Banerjee. It feels bad when leaders from other parties join ours or winning candidates from other parties join us and are given respect but a devoted and true soldier of the party has to face this. I was with TMC and will remain with TMC," he added.
This comes at the backdrop of the death of a post-graduate trainee doctor of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. The victim's family has alleged rape and murder. The CBI has taken over the case and an investigation into the matter is underway. The opposition BJP has accused the ruling TMC of a "cover-up" in the matter.
Responding to allegations, TMC leader Sen had pointed out the earlier complaints against the college principal who resigned following the incident and said that the state government should think in this regard.
"Whatever incident has happened, everyone has condemned it. The CM has come forward and said that it should be investigated in the Fast Track Court. There should be capital punishment for this. Later, it was given to the CBI. We are praying to the CBI to find out all the culprits as soon as possible," Sen said.
He added that there has been a series of complaints against the Principal of this college for the last 3 years. Mamata Banerjee's government has ensured necessary development in every medical college in the state but this is the only Principal about whom there is so much controversy, Sen said.
"We feel that the government should also think about this," he added. (ANI)
