Navjot Kaur backs Sidhu, says one must question those indulging in corruption
Amritsar (Punjab),[India] Mar. 24 (ANI): Asserting that Navjot Singh Sidhu's participation as a celebrity-judge on a popular TV show even after becoming a Cabinet Minister in Punjab is not against law, Navjot Kaur Sidhu said that he is doing some extra labour for his daughter's bright career, adding that higher authorities should take legal action against those running office of profit or indulging in corruption. Navjot Kaur told ANI, "I have clearly stated that our family does nothing that is against the law. He is doing some extra labour for his daughter's bright career who is studying abroad. I don't get this that why the higher authorities don't act against those who do corruption or the people who come in politics and make a huge turnover." "Even Shatrughan Sinha did a movie being an MP and Kirron Kher also took up assignments," she said. Reiterating her husband's views, Kaur claimed that his participation as a celebrity-judge on a popular TV show even after becoming a Cabinet Minister in Punjab is not an office-of-profit.' Sidhu, who is the Culture, Tourism, Archives and Museums Minister in Captain Amarinder Singh's Cabinet, can continue to work in a popular comedy show on TV since there is "no legal bar" and "conflict of interest", said state's Advocate General (AG) Atul Nanda in his legal advice tendered to the Punjab Government yesterday. The Attorney General in his statement submitted to the Punjab Government said there is no violation of the Constitution of India, the Representation of the People's Act, 1951, or the Code of Conduct in Sidhu's case. "There is no conflict of interest between his work on the show and his office and discharge of duties as a minister," Nanda said. The Punjab Chief Minister had sought the Attorney General's legal advice on whether there was any restriction on the continuation of Sidhu's work as a celebrity guest on TV or if it amounted to conflict of interest. Sidhu had earlier this week asserted that he would continue to participate in 'The Kapil Sharma Show'. (ANI)
