Naidu's daughter says her father's friendly nature, ideology made him victorious
New Delhi [India], August 6 (ANI): Elated with the overwhelming victory of her father, vice-president-elect M. Venkaiah Naidu's daughter Deepa Venkat said it was because of the former's friendly nature and belief that political ideology should not be incorporated in personal front made him victorious with such a huge margin. "It was his hard work for the period of past 40 years and his friendly nature that made him victorious. He believes that the party politics is only based on the ideology. There shouldn't be any personal enemies. That is what has made him victorious," Venkat told ANI. She said it is a happy moment for her, but she is bit stressed too over how her father would adapt himself to this new role, which is public-oriented and different from his previous roles. "He was chosen amongst so many people and not only the members of his party supported him, but all the members of the Parliament, irrespective of their party showed their faith on him. This shows the place he has in the hearts of the people," she said. Earlier, National Democratic Alliance (NDA) nominee and former union minister M. Venkaiah Naidu was elected as the 13th Vice President of India with 516 votes. Opposition nominee Gopalkrishna Gandhi secured 244 votes. Total 771 out of 785 MPs cast their votes today. However, it was revealed that 14 Members of Parliament (MPs) were not present during the voting process. Voting for the Vice-Presidential Election ended with a total poll percentage of 98.21 per cent. Naidu will be sworn-in as the new Vice-President of India on August 11. Outgoing Vice-President Hamid Ansari will demit office on August 10. (ANI)
