New Delhi [India], Feb 11 (ANI): BJP-led NDA government at the Centre is dividing the country and building a hatred campaign among the people of the country, said Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu here on Monday.
Naidu, who is observing ‘Dharma Porata Deeksha,’ a day-long protest for justice, demanding special category status for his state, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not implementing the provisions under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.
“The present Prime Minister Narendra Modi and NDA government are dividing the country. They are building a hatred campaign among the people. Ultimately, they want political gain, but it can't be. Prime Minister Modi is not implementing the provisions of the bifurcation Act,” he told ANI.
“They are launching personal attacks and humiliating the people. The government is misbehaving. They are responsible for all these things,” he said.
Asked if the ‘dharna’ was another forum for the opposition unity, the TDP supremo said the political parties are showing their solidarity. “It is a national solidarity towards Andhra Pradesh,” he said.
Commenting on the future course of action, Naidu said the TDP was able to muster national support for the special category status for Andhra Pradesh. “We have been able to expose Prime Minister Modi and the NDA government,” he said.
“We have also communicated to the people to the country that injustice has been done to Andhra Pradesh. They (BJP) have done injustice (to us). Our people are confident that either today or tomorrow they will get special status, as well as justice,” he said.
As per an official statement, Chief Minister Naidu will also be submitting a memorandum to President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday evening.
Several leaders from opposition parties, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, and Loktantrik Janata Dal chief Sharad Yadav are participating in the dharna.
Naidu, whose party pulled out of the NDA last year, also alleged the Centre is discriminating against Andhra Pradesh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is “inefficient and unfit to rule the country.”
“The NDA government did not fulfill the assurances given in Parliament. Not even a single assurance given at the time of bifurcation is fulfilled,” he said.
“Even the Centre is showing discrimination, we have no option other than protesting. The funds given for backward states are taken back in the fourth year,” Naidu said earlier in the day.
“Today we came here all the way to protest against the central government. Prime Minister Modi was in Guntur yesterday. There are 18 acts under the Bifurcation Act which they need to fulfill. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced special status. (Vice President) Venkaiah Naidu demanded special status to Andhra Pradesh for 10 years,” he said. (ANI)
