Nahid Afrin fatwa: Any kind of entertainment for Muslims is a crime, says cleric
New Delhi [India], Mar. 16 (ANI): Muslim cleric Maulana Sazid Rashidi while commenting on the fatwa issued against a singer in Assam stated that any kind of entertainment for Muslims is crime and this act of Nahid Afrin can only promote misunderstandings in the country. "Taking out a fatwa on this is the correct thing that anyone can do and I strongly support my leaders in this issue. For Muslims any kind of entertainment, be it listening to music or watching movies is a crime. Mohammad our leader has always advised us never to break rules in life but Nahid Afrin is totally promoting misunderstandings in the country with her performance which I strongly object," Rashidi told ANI. Rashidi further slammed the celebrities from different industries, who encourages "such performances" saying that the younger generation is going astray. "With singing one can only make a career and image in the society, what advantage does the community and the country get from it? Likewise from our celebrities what kind of benefit do we get from them, they earn for themselves and spend lavishly. That's how the younger generation is going astray and these are the results that we get," said Rashidi. As many as 42 clerics issued a fatwa against reality singing star Nahid Afrin, who was the first runner-up of a musical reality TV show, asking her to stop performing in public. According to reports, the fatwa has been issued against her keeping in view an upcoming event that was to be held on March 25. Since the venue of the event was in the vicinity of a mosque and a graveyard, the clerics have announced to boycott her singing programmes and have asked her to stop performing in public. Nahid, made her Bollywood singing debut for actress Sonakshi Sinha in the 2016 movie 'Akira', first rose to stardom after a successful stint on a reality singing show in 2015. (ANI)
