New Delhi [India], August 9 (ANI): Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha JP Nadda condemned the conduct of Opposition members in the House and demanded an apology in this regard on Friday.
Speaking on the recent protests and dramatic scenes in both Houses of Parliament, JP Nadda said that the kind of behaviour shown by the opposition is "extremely indecent and irresponsible."
"Today's incident is very condemnable and worrisome and is a violation of the values of democracy and I would like this House to pass a resolution condemning this. The way the opposition has behaved is very unparliamentary, unruly and indisciplined. The opposition should apologize for its behaviour today," Nadda said while addressing the upper house on Friday.
The Leader of the House said that the opposition has "become issueless" in terms of discussion and it is "their habit to behave indecently" and moved 'Ninda Prastav' over the behaviour of the Opposition in the House.
He said that the House must protect the values of democracy. "Therefore, this House unanimously condemns today's incident. And therefore, this House condemns the democracy," Nadda added.
Nadda emphasised that such incidents should be condemned outright and said, "I have said earlier also that opposing a party while opposing the country and supporting the destructive forces of the country is highly condemnable and therefore I condemn today's incident with all seriousness."
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also demanded an apology from the Opposition leaders and said that it was an insult to the democratic values of the country, democracy, and the Constitution.
The Opposition leaders walked out of Rajya Sabha on Friday after a heated exchange with Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar over BJP MP Ghanshyam Tiwari's remarks against Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge.
Congress MPs demanded an apology from Tiwari for his remarks made on August 1, but the Rajya Sabha chairman insisted that the issue was resolved privately with the leaders.
The Opposition Rajya Sabha MPs also demanded to expunge the remarks of Ghanshyam Tiwari about LoP, while Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan made remarks about the tone of Chairman Dhankhar.
The Chairman took strong exception to Jaya Bachchan's remarks, saying he does not want schooling and that he does not go by any script and has his script. On this, the Opposition members staged a walkout from Rajya Sabha.
Earlier on August 1, LoP Mallikarjun Kharge became emotional over the 'parivarvaad' statement by Ghanshyam Tiwari during a parliamentary session and urged Chairman Dhankhar to expunge those remarks in the House regarding his political journey. (ANI)
