Mufti condemns Nowshera ceasefire, calls for 'brotherhood, peace'

Jammu [India], May. 13 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday called for 'brotherhood and peace' between India and Pakistan post the cross-border firing in the state's Nowshera sector. "I would like to appeal to both nations, Pakistan and India, to not to indulge in unprovoked firings. We should maintain brotherhood and peace as we used to do during the former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee government," she told the media here. Dubbing the unprovoked ceasefire violation in Nowshera sector unfortunate, Mufti said, "I have been saying that the innocent people are the ones who have to suffer the brunt of these unprovoked firing and violence. So we should stop this." Two civilians were killed as Pakistan Army continued its unprovoked ceasefire violation in Nowshera sector on Saturday. A civilian was also injured in the firing, who was later rushed to the nearby hospital for immediate treatment. "Pakistani Army initiated indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars from 0715 hours along the Line of Control (LC) in Naushera sector," said an official statement. The Indian Army posts are retaliating strongly and effectively and the firing is presently on. On Thursday, two Pakistan Army soldiers were injured in retaliatory firing from the Indian side post a ceasefire violation in the Nowshera sector. A woman was killed and her husband was injured in the ceasefire violation. (ANI)
