New Delhi [India], Feb. 1(ANI): The mortal remains of former Union Minister and Indian Union Muslim League leader E Ahamed, who passed away in the wee hours of Wednesday morning at the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest in the Parliament yesterday, will be taken to his residence here so the public can pay their homage, post which his remains will be flown to Kannur, his hometown. E.T. Mohammed Basheer, Member of Parliament and Indian Union Muslim League leader told ANI that Ahamed passed away at 2:15 a.m. "With profound sorrow, we are announcing that the doctors have confirmed the sorrowful demise of our great leader E Ahamed at 2:15 a.m. As per the schedule, tomorrow from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., his body will be placed at his residence, 9 Trimurti Marg for the public to pay homage," he said. The MP further informed that around 2 o'clock in the afternoon, the body would be flown to Calicut. On reaching Calicut Airport, Ahamed's body will be kept for homage for the public at the Haj house for an hour, after which they'll head to League house, C.H Mohamed Choir hall. "There also tentatively we'll stay for 3-4 hours, post which we will finally proceed to Kannur, his hometown", he added. The senior minister was admitted in a critical condition after suffering a cardiac arrest during the President's address in both Houses on Tuesday. Earlier, the Congress party president Sonia Gandhi and party vice president Rahul Gandhi had visited the ailing politician in the hospital. Later, he was shifted to the RML trauma centre's ICU where he was put on ventilator. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also inquired about his health. However, Nazeer Ahamed, son of the ailing politician told ANI that he and his other family members had been barred from meeting his father and were not kept in loop in regard to any medical developments. Ahamed further stated that his family was appalled at the way they were kept on the sidelines at the critical juncture. The senior politician's daughter, who was also keeping vigil in the premises of RML, expressed her shock and dismay at the "unprofessional" and "unethical" behaviour by the hospital administration. Nazeer's brother-in-law Babu Shehzad, who is a nephrologist, asserted that the hospital had no protocol for visitors, which was disturbing and stressed on how the family had begged and pleaded with the administration to visit Ahamed, but to no avail. After almost 12 hours, the distraught family was finally allowed to visit the politician. Ahamed had served as Minister of State for External Affairs in the previous UPA government. (ANI)
