New Delhi [India], November 28 (ANI): After Priyanka Gandhi took oath as Lok Sabha MP from Wayanad on Thursday, her husband Robert Vadra said she will support her brother Rahul Gandhi and add strength to the party.
Speaking to ANI, Robert Vadra said, "There will be more strength for Rahul in Parliament. Priyanka has her own style of handling issues in politics. She has learnt a lot from all the generations in her family. She will definitely support Rahul and add strength to the party. Whatever promises she made to the people of Wayanad, I know that she will complete those."
He also mentioned that it was a very proud moment for all of them watching Priyanka taking oath as MP.
On being asked the reason Priyanka Gandhi was holding the Constitution in her hands while taking oath, Robert Vadra said, "Like Rahul always do the same, we all feel that the Constitution is prime and everyone holds it in high esteem. It should not be changed or played with or used for political purposes. She reiterated what Rahul and the Congress felt. It was a very strong message."
Speaking about her wife wearing a 'Kerala Kasavu saree' that reminded many of a young Indira Gandhi, Robert Vadra said it was a "thanking gesture" to the people of Wayanad.
"It was a thanking gesture to the people of Wayanad. Even if the people told her that she would win, she visited every part of the constituency and listened to everyone. She worked day and night. For the first time, she has worked for herself rather than for the Congress and other ministers. A lot of people felt that she looked like Indira Ji. She does have the similarity," he said.
"I would expect her to highlight all those issues that the government doesn't want to discuss. Be it farmer issues, women safety, inflation, religion-based politics and also misuse of the agencies," he added.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra secured the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat with a margin of 4,10,931 votes, defeating Sathyan Mokeri of the Communist Party of India (CPI).
Wayanad, a Congress stronghold, witnessed a triangular contest between Priyanka Gandhi, BJP's Navya Haridas, and CPI's Sathyan Mokeri. (ANI)
