Aizwal (Mizoram) [India], August 2 (ANI): Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhawma met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence on Thursday to express gratitude for the central government's assistance to Mizoram.
The central government has provided Rs 10 crore to Mizoram for the displaced people.
Lalduhawma requested that the Union Home Minister arrange a meeting with the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum, which represents all tribal communities in Manipur.
During their discussion, Union Home Minister Amit Shah informed CM Pu Lalduhawma that the Central Special Team for Cyclone Remal has already submitted its report, and assistance is expected soon.
They also addressed issues related to the relocation of the Assam Rifles from Aizawl to Zokhawsang.
Cyclone Remal hit the northeastern states of India and Bangladesh from May 26 to May 28, 2024, causing severe damage. The cyclone killed at least nine people and damaged several houses in India. It also caused flash floods, heavy rains, and landslides across the region.
In Mizoram's capital, Aizawl, a quarry collapse killed 14 people. Landslides disrupted connectivity on several national highways and damaged cemeteries in Aizawl town. Hundreds of people sought shelter in relief camps after heavy rains destroyed homes and knocked down power lines.
