Militancy in J-K increased during PM Modi's tenure, says Omar Abdullah

Shopian (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], Apr 30 (ANI): Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi led NDA government there has been a rise in militancy in the state in past five years. 
Talking to media during a public meet here, Omar said, "In 2014, Narendra Modi came to power and now in 2019 there is an increase in militancy in Jammu and Kashmir...You can obtain facts that will show that under Modi's leadership there has been an increase in the number of youths becoming terrorist than in 2014." 
The National Conference leader said, "As compared to 2014, there is a decrease in poll participation in the state now"
"Narendra Modi government in the Centre has not been able to conduct assembly elections here. This is the first time since 1996 that Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are not held on time," he added.
On being asked about PM Modi's statement during an election rally in West Bengal on Monday that he is in touch with 40 MLAs from Trinamool Congress (TMC), Omar said, "It has become a habit of BJP to form government thorough horse trading. They have done this in Goa, they tried a similar thing in Karnataka but were stopped by the court and they even tried this tactic in the northeast."
"BJP even tried to make People's Conference leader Sajjad Gani Lone as the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir," he added.
There are six Lok Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir-Baramulla, Jammu, Srinagar, Udhampur, Anantnag and Ladakh.
Anantnag is polling in three phases and has already gone to polls on April 23 and 29, and will also go for polls on May 6. Ladakh will go to polls on May 6 as well. Counting of votes will take place on May 23. (ANI)
