Mayawati sees Dalits as vote bank: Samajwadi Party
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Dec. 7(ANI): The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Wednesday took a jibe at Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati, saying that the latter sees Dalits only as a vote bank. "Mayawati sees the Dalits as a vote bank and thinks that it will be with her forever. But this is not the case. Dalits are intelligent enough. There is one more thing about Mayawati, whenever her reputation is affected only then she talks about Dalit ideologies. Otherwise in the nation what all torture the Dalits have to go through, she doesn't care about that. Everybody understands such type of opportunistic politics," Samajwadi Party leader Juhi Singh told ANI. Singh further hit back at Mayawati's statement wherein she accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of demolishing the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya. "How can we choose such a person who is living with such mentality? The Muslim society is very intelligent; they won't let the negative politics of Mayawati to proceed. We will stop the communal forces in Uttar Pradesh together," she added. Addressing a rally in Lucknow yesterday, the BSP supremo said the political parties create rift between the Dalits and backward classes, whereas the fact is that it was under the BSP rule that these sections of society got their rights in true sense. The BSP chief took potshots at the Rashtriya Swyamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the BJP saying, "These people do not like the Constitution. They want to change it. So, you need to guard against it. Ambedkar's Constitution accords equal status to all castes and religions, but the BJP is trying to impose the agenda of Hindutva on the country. If Muslims are safe in the country today, it is because of Babasaheb." "It was only after the 'master key' of Uttar Pradesh came in the hands of the Dalits that liberation of backward classes and the Dalits could become possible, against the wishes of the BJP and Congress. The BJP withdrew support to the V.P/ Singh government on the issue of reservation, which is a proof that this party is anti-Dalit, anti-backward classes and anti-minorities," Mayawati said. Mayawati further said that since the BJP does not want to give due honour and respect to Babasaheb, they chose December 6 as the death anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar, to demolish the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya. (ANI)
