Manipur blockade: Tripartite fails to reach conclusion, next meeting on Feb 7
New Delhi [India], Feb. 3 (ANI): In order to resolve the three month old economic blocakade which has been crippling the lives of Manipuri people, the Centre on Friday held tripartite talks with the United Naga Council (UNC) and the state government. The talks, however, remained inconclusive. "There was a substantive progress on the issue in the talks. A few points needed further discussions at their organisation level," the Centre said. During the meeting among the main issues that were discussed are creation of seven new districts, resolving the three month-old economic blockade and arrest of UNC leaders. The next meeting is slated for February 7. Manipur has been facing acute scarcity of all items on account of the blockade. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has been making repeated efforts to find a way to have the NH-2 opened. Since November 1, the UNC has blocked NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur) and NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam) that serve as crucial roads to the landlocked Manipur. What makes the situation tougher is that prices of all commodities have skyrocketed, while petrol, diesel and LPG cylinders are reportedly being sold at high prices in black markets. (ANI)
