Mamata jittery as TMC exposed for corruption: BJP
New Delhi/Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], Apr 21 (ANI): Coming down heavily upon West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the involvement of her party ministers in the Saradha Chit-fund scam and Narada tapes, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday said the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo is trying to defend the indefensible, adding that her party has been exposed as a party of corruption. BJP spokesperson GVL Narsimha Rao said that Mamata Banerjee is jittery as she is unable to find answers to the questions asked by the investigative agencies and therefore, she is running for cover. "Be it Saradha or Narada scam, TMC leaders are deeply involved in these cases and they won't be able to go scot-free. Her entire party is deeply complicit in a series of scandals and she will not be able to explain this to the people of West Bengal," Rao told ANI. BJP leader Rahul Sinha also resonated similar sentiments, saying that Mamata is trying to defend her ministers because if she does not, then more grave issues will emerge which will put her into serious trouble. "On what basis is Mamata Banerjee defending her ministers? FIR has been lodged because prima facie evidence has been found against the accused. She is defending them because if she does not, then many more serious things will come out which will put her into serious trouble," Sinha told ANI. BJP leader Sambit Patra also spoke on the same lines, saying that the TMC has been exposed as a party of corruption. "Mamata Banerjee is trying to find excuse for corruption. She is trying to defend the indefensible. As far as the Narada case is concerned, it was the High Court first which ordered for a probe by the CBI and thereafter, when the Bengal Government went to the Supreme Court, it also rejected the claims of the Mamata Government. They have nothing to hide. They have been clearly exposed that they are a party of corruption," he told ANI. Accusing the BJP of dividing the people based on religious identities , Mamata Banerjee earlier today urged all regional parties to come together for the sake of the nation while stating it is the 'need of the hour'. Addressing her party workers here, the TMc chief said Hinduism means tolerance but the saffron party is dividing the people based on religious identities. "It is the need of the hour for all regional parties to come together for the sake of the nation. The BJP is dividing the people on religious backgrounds. We respect all religions but Hinduism is our biggest identity. I am proud of my religion. I am proud of all religions. Hinduism means tolerance. The BJP is defaming Hinduism. Riots cannot be religion," she added. Meanwhile, the leaders of various political parties also echoed Mamata's assertion that the BJP was not a threat and said there would be no scope for the saffron party to form the next government if all regional parties unite.
