Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], February 11 (ANI): Trinamool Congress MP Sushmita Dev thanked West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after TMC on Sunday announced her candidature for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
"I want to express gratitude towards West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She has given me a chance to go to Rajya Sabja again. I am going to represent the All India Trinamool Congress party. Mamata Didi has proved how much she supports women's empowerment," said Sushmita Dev.
Notably, TMC announced Sagarika Ghose, Sushmita Dev, Nadimul Haque, and Mamata Bala Thakur as its candidates for election to the Upper House of Parliament.
Slamming the Centre over the women's reservation bill, Dev said, "Bhartiya Janta Party sometime back passed a women's reservation bill, but I want to know when it will be implemented; nobody can predict. But today, Mamata Didi gave a chance to many women to represent the party in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha."
Appreciating Mamata Banerjee over her decision, Dev said, "This decision is historic in itself. I don't think many women from northeastern states, especially from West Bengal, got the chance to reach Rajya Sabha twice. I think this is a very good decision."
Sushmita Dev also thanked National General Secretary, All India Trinamool Congress, Abhishek Banerjee, saying, "I thank all the party workers and especially TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. He has always left footprints to follow. He always motivated us. I hope he keeps doing the same in the future as well. We should all feel proud of what Mamata Didi has done for empowering women."
