New Delhi [India], July 17 (ANI): Launching a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar said that the latter is engaging in petty politics and that the entire state of West Bengal is upset with her, especially the Bengali Hindus.
Speaking to ANI, Majumdar said, "Mamata Banerjee is doing petty politics. The elections are approaching and the entire West Bengal is upset with her, especially the Bengali Hindus. After the Murshidabad incident, everyone has come together and wants to remove Mamata Banerjee."
"To bring a dent in Hindu votes, Mamata Banerjee has come up with the Bengali language point..." he added.
Union Minister Majumdar also challenged Trinamool Congress MPs to speak in Bengali during the upcoming Parliament session, which begins on July 21.
"We challenge Mamata Banerjee that the Parliament session will begin on July 21. All the MPs from Bengal, BJP or the TMC, all should give one speech in Bengali in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha," he said.
Furthermore, questioning the linguistic identity of some TMC leaders, Majumdar remarked, "All the TMC MPs must be Bengalis since TMC is only in Bengal. We want to see Yusuf Pathan, Kirti Azad and Saket Gokhale giving a Bengali speech in the Parliament. This will show how much Mamata Banerjee loves the Bengali language."
Earlier in the day, Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a fierce attack on the BJP and governments led by the party, accusing it of discrimination against Bengali-speaking citizens in the state.
In a fiery speech, she alleged that people were being harassed based on language, identity, and political bias. She recalled the recent incidents and alleged that people from Bengal were being harassed in states like Maharashtra and Assam.
"The Assam government has sent notices to Bengalis living in Bengal. What is happening?" she said, urging people to resist such divisive moves.
She claimed that Bengalis were being punished simply for using their mother tongue. (ANI)
