Siliguri (West Bengal) [India], April 13 (ANI): West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee on Saturday accused the BJP of being the biggest thief, traitor, and robber, adding that the TMC government works with the truth.
"The biggest thief, the biggest traitor, the biggest robber, the biggest mafia rule, if anyone runs it today, it's the BJP, not us, remember this. Bengal works with truth, this is our challenge," she said while addressing a rally in Siliguri.
The CM cautioned the public against believing social media rumours, claiming they were false and manufactured by the BJP party.
({BJP} Lies, make fake videos on YouTube, don't believe all that, they have stolen crores of rupees and are doing all this. Don't believe all this. Believe what I am saying, I am standing in front of you and saying, challenge me, I have no problem," she said.
Mamata Banerjee also said BJP sent 300 teams to investigate corruption in Bengal but found nothing.
"You (BJP) sent 300 teams to Bengal to see what corruption is in Bengal... But nothing was found. We have replied to all your queries, but even then you have not given the money, so (now) we don't want your money, and you also don't take our money. Why do you take money from Bengal? You have no right," she said.
Banerjee criticized Prime Minister Modi's government for increasing unemployment and high inflation in India, especially among educated youth.
"The highest unemployment in India is among the educated young generation. How much have the prices of things increased? Who is responsible for it? What is Narendra Modi's guarantee? It is the central government's job to look at the price rise," she said.
The TMC supremo also launched a scathing attack on PM Modi, calling his guarantees "jumlas" and accusing him of oppressing the poor.
"Modi's guarantee is a jumla (empty promise) guarantee, a guarantee of not giving money for 100 days, a guarantee of oppression of the poor," she said.
Polling for the Lok Sabha in Bengal will take place across all 7 phases, starting April 19. The counting of votes has been scheduled for June 4.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the TMC won 34 seats in the state, while the BJP had to settle for 2 seats. The CPI (M) won 2 seats, while the Congress bagged 4.
However, the BJP came up with a much-improved showing in the 2019 polls, winning 18 seats against the TMC's 22. The Congress's tally dropped to just 2 seats, while the Left scored a blank. (ANI)
