New Delhi [India], October 24 (ANI): The Congress party on Tuesday demanded strict action be taken against those BJP leaders who are allegedly involved in "corruption" while thinking of "winning" the elections on the "strength of money" in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh.
"Minister Govind Singh Rajput should be immediately dismissed and prevented from contesting elections and his assets should be investigated. CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Jyotiraditya Scindia should also answer in this regard," Congress posted on X.
Citing a purported video, at a press conference in New Delhi, Spokesperson Shoba Oza accused MP Transport and Revenue Minister Govind Singh Rajput of saying to his party workers, "Those (in charge of polling Booth) who give more votes to BJP, will get Rs 25 lakhs each ".
"The first video shows that MP transport minister Govind Singh Rajput is saying those who give more votes to BJP will get 25 lakhs. MP is poll poll-bound state and Model Code of Conduct is in place, but BJP is appeasing its own booth workers," the Congress leader said.
"Strict action should be taken against those BJP leaders who are involved in corruption and who are thinking of winning elections on the strength of money," Congress posted on X.
"We demand the Governor (Mangubhai C Patel) to dismiss Rajput and investigate the charges against him," she said.
Alleging that the MP elections are against a "corrupt government" she said, "BJP knows that they have lost the momentum in the election, the public will dismiss corrupt candidates".
BJP has not yet responded to the allegations.
Madhya Pradesh is one of the five states set to hold elections this year.
The state is scheduled to vote on November 17, with the vote count taking place on December 3.
Voters will choose legislators from 230 Assembly constituencies.
The Kamal Nath government collapsed in March 2021 when 22 sitting Congress MLAs resigned under the leadership of Jyotiraditya Scindia and joined the BJP. Subsequently, the BJP formed the government in the state, with Shivraj Singh Chouhan taking office as Chief Minister. (ANI)
