Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) [India], July 14 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav participated in the Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra in Gwalior on Saturday and congratulated ISKCON for organising the event.
Madhya Pradesh assembly speaker and former union minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Gwalior MP Bharat Singh Kushwaha, and other leaders of the BJP also participated in the Rath Yatra.
"I would like to congratulate ISKCON for organising this Jagannath Yatra. I wish that the people continue to have the blessings of God. May Lord Krishna bless us all. This is the 5th year of the Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra in Gwalior, including Lord Krishna, Lord Balaram, and Subhadra," CM Yadav said while speaking to the media.
Several tableaux and exhibits accompanied the chariot of Lord Jagannath during the Yatra, which passed through various streets of the city.
"Today is the grand Rath Yatra festival of Lord Jagannath. People have joined this procession with great enthusiasm and devotion. The city's residents have also worshipped Lord Jagannath and prayed for continued prosperity and well-being. Regarding the victory in the Amravada Assembly elections, it is a victory of development and the efforts of the workers," Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar said.
The Rath Yatra, also known as the Chariot Festival, is believed to be as old as the Jagannath Temple in Puri. According to the Hindu calendar, the festival is celebrated on the Dwitiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha (waxing moon fortnight) in the month of Ashadh. The Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra was celebrated last week.
The festival is associated with Lord Jagannath, an avatar of Lord Vishnu, and his siblings. During the Yatra, the deities Lord Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra, and his sister Subhadra are carried on wooden chariots from Jagannath Temple to Gundicha Temple in Puri. (ANI)
