Lucknow: Congress paints over '27 saal UP behaal' slogan posters post alliance with Samajwadi Party
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Jan 28 (ANI): Post the forming of its alliance with the Samajwadi Party, the Congress on Saturday withdrew its slogan of '27 saal UP behal' by painting posters that were anti Uttar Pradesh government. The Congress had earlier published these posters against its opponent parties, including the Samajwadi Party. The slogan was extensively used in road shows and campaigns of the Congress party even as the ruling SP was mired in a factional crisis of its own. Putting all speculations to rest, the Congress and the Samajwadi Party last week on January 22 forged an alliance for the high-voltage Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls. The Congress, which wanted to contest as many as 121 seats, has reportedly now settled for 105 seats. The development came after Priyanka Gandhi's intervention ending the prolonged deadlock over entering into an alliance to counter the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the politically crucial state. The Samajwadi Party said to be the major partner in the alliance has so far argued that the Congress performed better only in 54 seats in Uttar Pradesh in the last polls. Uttar Pradesh will vote in seven phases beginning February 11 and results will be announced on March 11. (ANI)
