New Delhi [India], March 31 (ANI): Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took a jibe at the BJP-led government on Sunday narrated the story of Lord Ram and claimed that the BJP is "trapped in an illusion."
Addressing the Maharally at Ramlila Maidan in the national capital, Priyanka Gandhi said that she thinks that those in power today are besotted with showoff and she wants to remind them of the thousands-year-old tale and its message.
"I have been coming to Ramlila Maidan since childhood. Every year, Ravan's effigy is set on fire. When I was a kid, I used to come here with my grandmother, Indira Gandhi ji and she used to narrate the story of the Ramayana to me. Those in power today call themselves Ram Bhakts. When I was sitting here, I thought that I should say something to them. I want to remind them of the 1,000-year-old tale and its message," Vadra said.
Priyanka further told the Prime Minister that power does not remain with anyone forever, power comes and goes and then the "ego gets shattered."
Priyanka Gandhi directed her message to the Prime Minister, asserting that power is transient and that arrogance ultimately leads to downfall.
"I want to tell those in power and PM Narendra Modi that the message of Lord Ram's life is that power is not permanent, power comes and goes and arrogance gets shattered one day," she added.
She further said that the BJP is trapped in an illusion and reminded them of a thousand-year-old tale and its message.
"I think that they (the BJP) are trapped in an illusion. I want to remind them of a thousand-year-old tale and its message. When Lord Ram fought for truth, he did not have power, resources or even a chariot. Ravan had chariots, resources, army and gold, but Lord Ram had truth, hope, belief, love, kindness, modesty, patience, courage and truth. I want to tell those in power and PM Narendra Modi that the message of Lord Ram's life is that power is not permanent... and arrogance gets shattered, she added.
The Congress general secretary also read out the demands of the opposition alliance at the INDIA bloc Maha rally at the Ramlila ground.
Opposition leaders came together in a show of strength at the capital's Ramlila Maidan on Sunday to protest against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi liquor policy case.
INDIA alliance leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, J-K NC leader Farooq Abdullah, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, Jharkhand CM Champai Soren and other leaders at the INDIA bloc rally in Ramlila Maidan, Delhi.
Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21. He is in custody till April 1. (ANI)
