Lok Sabha adjourned for the day as demonetisation war continues
New Delhi [India], Nov.24 (ANI): The chaos over the demonetisation issue continued to cripple the proceedings in Lok Sabha as Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the House for the day. The opposition trooped into the well of the House demanding a debate under Rule 56. The House was earlier adjourned till 12 p.m. after Samajwadi Party lawmaker Akshay Yadav tore papers and threw it towards the Speaker. Akshay, the Member of Parliament from Firozabad, is the son of Rajya Sabha MP Ram Gopal Yadav and nephew of Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav. Soon after the House reassembled, the Speaker reprimanded Yadav for his conduct. "This behaviour is not proper on the part of the member and also for the dignity and prestige of the House," Mahajan said. After this, she allowed members to lay listed papers on the table. She also rejected several adjournment notices given by members including Kamal Nath, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Dushyant Chautala and Dharmendra Yadav. Mahajan also disallowed the adjournment motions moved by opposition members including from the Congress and TMC in which they had demanded a discussion on the issue under relevant rule, which entails voting. Not satisfied with this, the opposition members trooped into the well and raised slogans against the government. Amidst the din, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day. (ANI)

In an 'X' post, TMC said the government has "ek hi naara, line mein rahe desh bechara," pointing to past governmental measures including demonetisation, the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, the Special Identification Registration (SIR), and now the LPG shortage. The party described demonetisation as a "Tughlaqi farman" that forced ordinary citizens to wait in serpentine queues outside banks and ATMs for days to access their own money. The post also highlighted the 2020 COVID-19 oxygen crisis, when families stood in long lines outside hospitals and suppliers as the public health system collapsed.
