Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], March 27 (ANI): Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao on Thursday thanked Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for highlighting farmers' plight in Telangana during a discussion in the Parliament and alleged that the local BJP leadership is busy acting like "personal staff" of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
"While I may have many issues with madam FM Nirmala Sitharaman Garu and her economic policies, I am thankful to her for this Thank you for taking this up and raising your voice to highlight the plight of the farmers in Telangana. Not even 30 percent farmers' loans were waived off. Farmer suicides are increasing. Raithu bandhu isn't being released. There is a severe water crisis. This is the first time in a decade the farming community in Telangana is in severe distress," KTR said in a post on X.
"But also let me tell you Nirmala Sitharaman ji- your local BJP leadership is busy acting like personal staff of CM Revanth Reddy. They don't utter a word in support of the farmers here. And in turn attack us for questioning about the Congress government's laxity," he added.
On Wednesday in Rajya Sabha, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman took a line of BRS member Ravi Chandra Vaddiraju's statement in Telugu during the discussion where he referred to Congress loan waiver scheme for farmers.
"When Rina maafi" (loan waiver) was announced, but half the farmers did not even get it. So this is the point we have been repeatedly making," Sitharaman said in the Rajya Sabha.
She further said that half the farmers were left without loan waivers because the banks had recorded their names, thereby making them ineligible for new loans.
"But you really don't do it as half the farmers are left out without Rina Mafi and the banks would put it on the record saying you been covered under Rina Mafi because the Congress government had given that promise and later because under one-time settlement your loans have been returned off, the farmers not even eligible for one more new loan," Sitharaman said.
